Constant use had not worn ragged
the fabric of their friendship.

--Dorothy Parker
Do you wish to be great? Then begin by being. Do you desire to construct a vast and lofty fabric? Think first about the foundations of humility. The higher your structure is to be, the deeper must be its foundation.

St. Augustine
Since we met
all those years ago,
your friendship
has been a precious thread
refining, enriching,
and strengthening
the fabric of my life.
It is in his pleasure that a man really lives; it is from his leisure that he constructs the true fabric of self.

--Agnes Repplier
Kindred spirit, the very fabric
of you is so familiar, it seems
as if we are woven of the same thread.
Memories, all those little experiences make up the fabric of our lives and on balance, I wouldn't want to erase any of them, tempting though it may be.

--Ben Affleck
My Quilt
I've made a quilt of memories
To keep my family warm
Through breezy springtime afternoons
Or in a winter storm.
Memories to keep us company
When friends cannot be near,
So my quilt is made of photographs
Of all our loved ones dear.

Within you'll see the fabric
Of our lives from day to day
As scraps of our activities
Fill each busy day.
They're pieced together carefully
And stitched with love & care
So you'll be warmed from inside out
And feel that you were there.

Quilts & minds get worn with time,
The thoughts & colors fade.
The names & dates get lost among
The schedules that we've laid;
But you can wrap within my quilt
Whenever you are cold.
This album is a patchwork quilt
With memories sewn throughout.
Each picture weaves a story
That tells what we're about.
Each page is pieced together
With moments from our past.
And like a quilt of fabric,
These memories will last.
The shared memories brought smiles, laughter;
a few tears and, at last, a sense of contentment.
For slowly, from our treasured memories
a kindred bond began to emerge.

That's how it is with people sometimes.
When you least expect it, a common thread -
golden, at that - begins to weave together
the fabric of friendship.
We are more than just acquaintances. . .it's as if we
are cut from the same fabric. Even though we appear
to be sewn in a different pattern, we have a common
thread that won't be broken by people or years or distance.
These are the roots of the fabric of my being.
Those who love us remind us to look deeper, and to remember the very fabric of which we are made.
